Nogales High School Welcomes New Coaches

Nogales Welcomes Two New Head Varsity Coaches

Nogales High School introduced during a special lunchtime meeting in the Mack Center Gym the new Varsity Boys Water Polo Head Coach and new Varsity Boys Soccer Head Coach.

Nogales Athletic Director, Bruce Alley, introduced the new water polo coach, Marcos Garcia, Jr. who is a Nogales Alumnus and was a member of the back to back CIF D7 championships, 3-peat league champions, and was elected to first team all league, CIF D7 first team, CIF D6 second team as a player.

 

Coach Garcia, Jr. has coached water polo for the Sea Devils water polo program and continues to do so.

 

He is currently attending Cal Poly Pomona as a Kinesiology major. He will coach the Nogales team along with his father, Marcos Garcia, Sr. who has been a longtime assistant to the former coach.

 

Coach Garcia stated that he “hopes to continue the legacy of Nogales water polo and one day bring another CIF championship to Nogales.”

Dr. Martinez shared Coach Javier Aguiniga’s background as a coach and teacher and the goal of bringing a teacher to the coaching ranks at Nogales High School.

Coach Aguiniga played two seasons for the Rio Hondo College Road Runners and captained the Team to win the Foothill Conference in 2008 and 2009. Coach Aguiniga was also a member of the UCLA Bruins track and field team in 2004, earned a degree in Mathematics in 2007 and became a full time Math Teacher in 2011.

Coach Aguiniga played varsity soccer, football and track and field at Mountain View High School.

As a Coach, Coach Aguiniga led Mountain View High School to win back-to-back CIF championships in 2009 and 2010, and 4 Mission Valley League Titles. Coach Aguiniga also led Bell High School to win the 2013 LA CITY CIF CHAMPIONSHIP.

Coach Aguiniga said that he, “plans to develop a strong, competitive and renowned Soccer program at Nogales High School in order to bring success into Nogales High School in CIF and academics in order to send out many student athletes out to Community Colleges or 4 year Universities to compete.”

Dr. Canal congratulated both coaches and welcomed them to the Nogales coaching staff. Several ASB student leaders played music as students arrived and provided the PA system.
