Directions: Over break you need to complete this evolution extension packet.  It will take you quite a bit of time, so I would not overwhelm yourself by trying to complete it in one day.  Make sure each of your sections are in order, and labeled with the correct IB coding.  This packet will eventually be taped into your notebook for reference during IB exam preparation.  I will collect the packet on the day you return.  NO POINTS WILL BE AWARDED for late packets.  The use of the internet is of course permitted.  The point is for you to gain an understanding about these topics.  Simply copying an pasting from the internet will not help you answer questions on an IB exam.

Paper 2 tests knowledge of the core AHL material for students at HL. The questions address objectives 1, 2 and 3 and the paper is divided into two sections. In section A, there is a data-based question that requires students to analyze a given set of data. The remainder of section A is made up of short-answer questions.

In section B, students at HL are required to answer two questions from a choice of four. These extended-response questions may involve writing a number of paragraphs, solving a substantial problem, or carrying out a substantial piece of analysis or evaluation. A calculator is required for this paper.

• Data-based question.
• Short-answer and extended-response questions on core and AHL material.
• Two out of three extended response questions to be attempted by candidates.
• The questions on paper 2 test assessment objectives 1, 2 and 3.

Paper 3 tests knowledge of the options and addresses objectives 1, 2 and 3. Students at HL are required to answer several short-answer questions and an extended-response question in each of the two options studied. A calculator is required for this paper.

• Section A: candidates answer all questions, two to three short-answer questions based on experimental skills and techniques, analysis and evaluation, using unseen data linked to the core material.
• Section B: short-answer and extended-response questions from one option.
• The questions on paper 3 test assessment objectives 1, 2 and 3.
• The use of calculators is permitted. (See calculator section on the OCC.)

Paper 1 is made up of multiple-choice questions that test knowledge of the core only for students at SL and the core and AHL material for students at HL. The questions are designed to be short, one- or two-stage problems that address objectives 1 and 2 (see the “Objectives” section).  Calculators are not permitted, but students are expected to carry out simple calculations.

• 40 multiple-choice questions on core and AHL material, about 15 of which are common with SL.
• The questions on paper 1 test assessment objectives 1, 2 and 3.
• The use of calculators is not permitted.
