WARNING: DO NOT JUST USE A GENERIC DICHOTOMOUS KEY FOUND ONLINE.  YOU MUST CREATE YOURS FROM SCRATCH. 

ALSO, DO NOT CREATE A “MIDDLE SCHOOL VERSION” YOU SHOULD BE COMPARING VERY SIMILAR ORGANISMS.

 
2. Spend your week working on making your D. Key--This is not something that you can leave until the last minute.  I'm giving you two weeks for a reason! This is your last project of the year.  It goes into your grade as a lab report score.  I would plan out your weeks to make this project more manageable.  Sample plan attached. 
  • Monday- pick animal and research Scientific name/ common names/ members of the family of choice
  • Tuesday- Find CLEAR pictures of each of the 15-20 members of your family
  • Wednesday- Start organizing what features you plan on using in your D. Key by studying the pictures
  • Thursday-Tuesday Start a rough draft of your dichotomous key in a Google Doc
  • Wednesday- Take a break from the key
  • Thursday- Saturday- EDIT EDIT EDIT. Find your mistakes. Do you need to change a picture? Are there any steps that are unclear? If you go step by step through your key one time each of these days, you will probably find most, if not all of your mistakes. 
  • Sunday- Last review + submission to Google Classroom
 
3. There should be three files submitted by 11:59 on Sunday night  (NO LATE LABS ACCEPTED)
  1. G. Doc with Dichotomous key and anatomy key
  2. G. Slides presentation with 15-20 numbered pictures of your animal
