Grading Policy
I use the following grading policy for work in my special education ED/BD classroom. If you have questions about your score on a particular piece of work, just ask me about it.
Graded Items:
A "graded item" is any work receiving a grade; for example a homework, an exam, a quiz, or class participation. Each graded item is graded on a 100 point scale, where these numeric scores may be "curved" to get a more reasonable grade distribution. If I receive no work for an item, the score (including it's "curved" score) is zero. The student still may turn in the work late up to 3 days at a maximum of 80% of the assignment value.
Grade Scale:
For the course letter grade, the curved item scores are simply combined as a weighted average, and then your course letter grade is determined by the following table.
Average
Score Letter
Grade
93 and above A
90 to 92.99 A-
86 to 89.99 B+
83 to 85.99 B
80 to 82.99 B-
76 to 79.99 C+
73 to 75.99 C
70 to 72.99 C-
66 to 69.99 D+
60 to 65.99 D-
0 to 59.99 F
Makeups:
I may offer makeup versions of some assignments. If attempted, the score on a makeup replaces a previous score. A makeup may have a maximum score less than 100.
Extra Credit:
Extra credit problems are expected to be difficult. If solved, these problems simply increase the score of that homework or exam. The exact increase and formula will be specified with the problem.
Low Scores:
In courses with many homeworks, I may offer to "throw out" the lowest homework grade. So, a mark may be omitted before the final averaging step, but otherwise the process is the same.
Cheating Policy
There is a clear expectation that all students will perform assignments with honor and integrity. There is "zero tolerance" for students cuaght cheating. Cheating consists of but not limited to the following:plagiarism, copying or allowing assignments to be copied, and having access to materials not allowed by teachers. Any violation of the cheating policy must be referred to SSC by teacher.
First Violation of the year
1. Zero on assignment
2. Teacher meets with parent and this signed form is sent to SSC to be placed in student's discipline file.
3. Teacher gives a copy of this form to parent.
Second Violation of the year

2Student will be sent to SSC with a referral.

Representative Objectives and Performance Skills:
The Standards for English 11-12, Algebra 1 and 2, Earth Science, Spanish 2, and P.E. shall be rigorously addressed with research based methodologies.
Level System
Classroom privileges will be contingent upon the level the student is on. Level 5 is the highest level and reflects that the student's behavior is appropriate. While on level 5 students are allowed to purchase snacks, walk from classroom to classroom without supervision, during passing periods, and go to general education lunch.
