Classroom Expectations

Each student is expected to contribute positively to the learning environment of the English classroom.

Students making a positive contribution:
  • take responsibility for their own success in class,
  • listen attentively,
  • exhibit self-control,
  • respect classmates and teacher,
  • raise their hands when they have a question or want to make a comment
  • work independently (unless instructed otherwise),
  • do their class work effectively and carefully,
  • walk into the class quietly when they are late,
  • bring their materials to class every meeting, and
  • seek to preserve a quiet environment so all class members can listen and concentrate.
Behaviors that disturb the learning environment include (but are not limited to):

  • acting disrespectfully to classmates or the teacher,
  • talking out of turn, without raising a hand to be acknowledged,
  • blurting out irrelevant comments,
  • making comments that are off-topic and demonstrate that a student is not paying attention,
  • criticizing, laughing at, or putting down other students,
  • disturbing another student,
  • sleeping or otherwise indicating disengagement from classroom activities,
  • behaving in an unsafe manner in the classroom,
  • failing to comply with the NHS electronic devices policy.
School Procedures for inappropriate behavior:
  1. Warning
  2. Call parents/send note home
  3. Referral to office
  4. Teacher reserves the right to skip any step listed above based on severity of incident.
  • Attendance:
  1. Students will be referred to the office for excessive absences.
  • Tardies:
  1. After the third unexcused tardy to class, student will be assigned a detention. Student will be assigned a detention for each tardy after the third tardy.

Make wise choices, and contribute positively to the English class learning environment!

  • Rewards for appropriate behavior:
  1. Bathroom passes
  2. Extra SSR time
  3. Extra credit
  4. Lunchtime movies in classroom
  5. Game time - Jeopardy, Word Bingo
Academic Integrity:

Cheating is not tolerated at Nogales High School. Students who choose to cheat may expect a variety of consequences, including but not limited to loss of grade, loss of class office or loss of ability to participate in extracurricular activities. Consequences will be at the discretion of the teacher involved, and will be discussed with the student and parent/s.

 Failing to properly give credit for words [music, graphics, or other creative material] written by someone else is plagiarism. Using documents or parts of documents [or other files, such as music or graphics] found on the Internet or elsewhere without giving credit is plagiarism.
