GENERAL INFORMATION
California Scholarship Federation is a statewide organization whose purpose is to foster high standards of scholarship, service, and citizenship on the part of its members. Participation in this honor society presupposes that every member has achieved a common core of academic excellence. The status and prestige of members of CSF demand this consistency. This uniformity has been ensured by the establishment and maintenance of a common set of criteria that remain constant from chapter to chapter.
To secure eligibility for CSF membership a student must earn a total of ten points based on grades from a maximum of five courses taken the previous semester. Seven points must be in college prep classes. A’s carry 3 points; B’s, 1 point, while those earned in an AP/IB or honors class earn an additional point to the one mentioned above.

SEALBEARER STATUS
To be a Sealbearer or Life Member a student must be a full (not associate) member of CSF at least four semesters. These memberships are based on grades earned in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. All memberships are based on grades earned during the previous semester and at least one of these must be on grades earned as a senior. Memberships based on grades earned in the 9th grade qualify students as associate members. Full membership does not accrue until the 10th-grade year.
Sealbearers are recognized by having a gold seal affixed to their diplomas and by wearing the CSF Lamp Pin. Students who are full members for all six qualifying semesters wear the CSF sash at graduation.

ACTIVE/INACTIVE MEMBERS
An active member not only fulfills the academic requirements for CSF membership but also participates in chapter activities: regular attendance meetings, involvement in service projects, and fundraising. Active members are eligible to hold chapter office, take part in field trips and banquets, and apply for chapter scholarships.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SEMESTER MEMBERSHIP
1. Membership shall be based on scholarship only.
2. Semester membership is by written application only and shall not be automatic or compulsory.
3. All chapters must conform their Lists I, II, and III to the established academic standards, and students must secure their eligibility based on those lists.
