Course Description:
English class includes an amalgamation of word analysis, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and literary analysis. Writing strategies are comprised of applications, essays, and language conventions. The listening and speaking aspects of the curriculum are made up of participation, speeches, and presentations.
Students will read several graphic novels, short stories, and poems including informational and literary texts with an emphasis on in depth analysis, writing complex compositions and research reports, making oral presentation, and rigorous participation.
Students will be using the grade appropriate anthology which includes short narratives, expository literature, technical documents, poetry, and plays.
Objective:
Students will master the Common Core Standards in English which include vocabulary development, informational materials, literary comprehension and analysis, expository critique, research, writing essays, language conventions, and listening and speaking through instruction, assignments, and assessment.
