Choir
Prerequisite: Must pass instructor's audition and approval
Students are members of the advanced mixed (boys and girls) ensemble that performs many styles of music from classical, pop, jazz, and show choir. Students learn intensive skills involved in singing, dancing, and performing in preparation for competitions and festivals. Attendance is required at several concerts and festivals throughout the year. Multiple off-campus performing opportunities and festivals will also be required.
Concert Choir
Prerequisite: Must pass instructor's audition and approval
Students will learn different styles of music including classical, spirituals, popular, multicultural, and many other genres. This course is open to all students and is the training ground for the advanced girls show choir.
Nogales Singers
Course ID 2634
This is a beginning ensemble for all students with limited or no singing experience. Students will learn proper singing techniques and musicianship skills through a variety of warm-up exercises, music theory content, and sight-singing examples.
Dance
Music
Prerequisite: Must pass instructor’s audition. Students must be enrolled simultaneously in Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble or Dance. Active participation is mandatory at all concerts and extra rehearsals.
This course is for Physical Education credit for those students enrolled in the prerequisite classes. Students must devote many hours to rehearsals and performances. This course is required for students who desire to pursue the Instrumental Music Pathway in the Arts, Media Entertainment Certification Program.
Prerequisite: Teacher approval and try-out; students must be enrolled simultaneously in Marching Band
This course is designed to give attention to the details of preparing a tall flag and rifle team for competition. The group is an auxiliary of the Marching Band and functions as such during the marching season.
Orchestra
This course prepares students who play the violin, viola, cello, and double bass to learn the fundamentals of playing string instruments, including posture, techniques, music theory, music appreciation, and individual/ensemble playing. Students are expected to practice regularly and perform in school/community concerts every semester.

Theater
Beginning Theatre

Articulation with Mt. SAC (Course THTR 9)
This course prepares students with an overview of the art of the theatre with an emphasis on performance activities including scene study, monologue work, pantomime, Reader’s and Children’s Theatre, Comedy Sports and improvisation, and oral interpretation. Technical work, such as set, lighting, makeup and sound design is also covered. Students are given the opportunity to become familiar with the latest techniques and technology in the profession and assess their importance to the art of the theatre.
Intermediate Theatre

Articulation with Mt. SAC (Course THTR 9)
This course prepares students for in-depth performance and production work including acting styles and period theatre, technical drafting of advanced design work, and application of theatre history to performance and design work. Student performances and projects are entered local and statewide competitions and festivals. Students also prepare productions to perform on and off campus in a variety of community outreach programs. This course is required for those students who wish to pursue the Theatre-Performing Arts pathway in the Arts & Communication Career Certification Program.
Advanced Theatre

Prerequisite: “B” or better in Beginning Intermediate or recommendation of teacher
This course prepares students for the opportunity to study the most advanced techniques in performance/design and apply them to projects of their choice. Students have access to the most advanced technology available on site. Creativity is emphasized through a concentration on original work and individual interpretation. Each student is encouraged to develop his/her artistic voice. Advanced level student projects benefit both school and community.
The IB Diploma Programme theatre course is a multifaceted theatre-making course. It gives students the opportunity to make theatre as creators, designers, directors and performers. It emphasizes the importance of working both individually and as part of an ensemble. It offers the opportunity to engage actively in the creative process of inquiring, developing, presenting and evaluating. Students are encouraged to work as inquisitive and imaginative artists, transforming ideas into action and communicating these to an audience.
