Welcome To Mr. Maldonado's Classroom!

Hello and welcome!
I am Mr. Maldonado and I am a mathematics teacher. This is my fifth year teaching at Nogales High School as I had joined the teaching staff during November of the 2015-2016 school year. This year, I am happy to be teaching Geometry and Algebra 1. I am a graduate from Cal Poly Pomona (2014) with a B.S. Degree in Mathematics and completed the Teaching Credential Program as well at Cal Poly.
As a math teacher, I strongly believe in the idea of "learn by doing" because I believe students learn better in that aspect. I also try to connect a lot of the math taught in the classroom to real world applications of the 21st century........which allows me to answer the common question of "Why do we need to learn this?" I also like to tie some of the lessons to fields that the students may pursue or become interested in later on in their lives.
On my free time I enjoy hiking, swimming, going to the beach, Disneyland, aerial filming and photography using my professional drone, and ultimately traveling. My favorite places to visit are Seattle, Chicago, New York City, and Washington D.C.
Attention all students enrolled in Mr. Maldonado's math class (Algebra 1 / Geometry) for the 2020-2021 school year:
Google Classroom has been created and established for all of my students who are enrolled in my class this year. Please check your school email (Google email) under "Classroom" and you should see be class there.
Once you're in my Google Classroom, you should see the Zoom links with days and times.
For virtual learning I will be using these main programs:
-Google Classroom (announcements, some class assignments, student communication, links to math videos)
-Zoom (live lessons, "office hours" for student help, student/parent communication)
-Big Ideas Online (online program for textbook, majority of class assignments, tests/quizzes)
As parents and students I'm sure many of you might be worried, but again I want to make this as easy and simple as much as possible for my students since this is still relatively new to everyone.
If you have any questions or concerns, my email is:
Be healthy and stay safe out there guys! I look forward to seeing you all real soon!
-Mr. Maldonado
