Student success is directly tied to the amount of time students receive instruction in class. It is the priority of Nogales staff and administration to maximize the time students are in class giving them the greatest opportunity to succeed. As a result there is an expectation for students to be in class and on time.
When a student is absent parents are asked to call the Attendance Office before 1:30 p.m. on the day of the absence, or send a note with the returning student, which the student must present to the Attendance Office before returning to class. If calling to report an absence between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. please call (626) 965-3437 extension 3516. If calling to report an absence after 3:30 p.m. please call (626) 912-2749.
Students with truancies will be assigned detentions and Saturday Schools. If truancies continue a truancy letter will be sent home followed by a parent conference with a SART. Parents/Guardians and student will be required to attend a School Attendance Review Board (SARB) hearing. Present at this meeting will be an Assistant District Attorney who will detail the legal consequences of continued truancies. If the truancies continue, the Assistant District Attorney may seek court action against the parents/guardians and the student.
A student is tardy if he/she is not in his/her assigned seat or workstation when the bell rings. Students in physical education classes are tardy if they are not in their designated areas when the bell rings. Students who are tardy to any class will be assigned a detention.
