This book is written in poetry and prose forms, told in alternating narrations. In it, readers meet Ariel and Maya. Since Ariel's mom abandoned her when she was three years old, it's always been just Ariel and her (abusive) dad. Maya runs away from her (abusive) mom into the arms of an older man, thinking she'll be better off, only to find out that she's not.
