The Noble Runner:  Cross Country Team

By Citlaly Bacerra Junior

“Ready?... BAM!” The runners are set, the gun is shot, and then they’re off. From running three miles to eighteen miles, the Nogales Cross Country team puts effort and dedication into every second they run. “Cross Country teaches us not only to go beyond our limits in running, but also in life,” states junior Edwin Partida. [It] is a sport many find similar to Track, but different in that they run non-stop across grass, trails, and tough terrains.

Although our Cross Country team makes it seem easy to do, it takes a lot of self-confidence and discipline. The team practices every morning while it is still dark outside, and each afternoon, regardless of the weather. “To be in Cross Country, you need to have a strong mentality, tell yourself that you’re strong enough to pass your limit, and practice, practice, practice,” adds junior Anna Trejo (pictured above right).  Senior Nayely Iniguez says, “Running is something I love to do. It helps relieve stress and gets certain thoughts off of your mind.” The Cross country runners run every race as if it were their last. Junior Alfredo Gomez reveals with much pride, “Today’s victory was won by yesterday’s practice.”

There is no doubt their dedication and motivation will persevere during the 2010 races.
