Course Description

Algebra 1 is the foundation for all higher math classes that students will take in high school and college. This course includes standards from the conceptual categories of Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, and Statistics and Probability. Students will be working on the necessary skills to be successful in the 21st Century (Communication, Collaboration, Creativity and Critical Thinking).

  • Pencils (2) or a mechanical pencil (with extra lead)
  • Pen, color pencil, highlighter (notes)

Homework Policy

Homework shall be given on a regular basis and shall be completed by the next class meeting. It is your responsibility to write down the homework assignment each day from the projector or from a friend. Each assignment will be checked for completeness and given a grade of 4, 3, 2 or 0. 0 = Not done, 2 = half done, 3 = mostly done, 4 = Every problem with a solution and appropriate work shown. Late homework will not be accepted after Monday of the following week. If you do not turn in your homework on time, mandatory lunch detention will be assigned on the same day. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get missing homework assignment and it will be due on the next day. Late homework can earn up to 3 points.

Late Work and Makeup

Late projects will be accepted for half credit up to one week after its due date. If a student is absent, it is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements to make-up any missed work on the first day that the student is back at school. Students have 2 days to make up a missing test or quiz. If the student does not schedule for a make-up time, a zero (0) will be given in the grade book.

At any time, if the behavior warrants it, students will receive a referral without previous steps taken.
