The French ab initio course aims to develop each of the four primary language skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing, to a similar level of communicative competence. The course focuses on everyday situations and aspects of the culture related to them. A good command of grammatical structures is necessary in order to carry out communicative tasks effectively.
 
Although there is a short period of time for the students to learn the new language, the development of communicative competence is stressed. In April and May, IB ab initio students have the opportunity to take the French IB ab initio Examinations.
