Course Description:
In the first semester the student will learn the basic clay construction techniques and the fundamentals of 3 dimensional design, function and color application. In the second semester he/she will apply these in the creation of a self-portrait, action figure, a car design, a toy design and movie set.

Content Outline:
In 3-D design the students will use the construction techniques of pinch, carve, coil, coiled slab, and slab to create sculptures with the following design principles:
1. Design and Construction students will learn the principles and elements of 3-D art and the techniques of clay construction. (A1.6, A2.1, A2.4, & A2.5)
2. Five major projects revolving around the industry students will learn to apply the skills from first semester into projects revolving around real jobs in the 3-D design field. (A1.6, A2.1, A2.4, & A2.5)
3. In Visual Communications the students will learn to use design to express a clear message about an idea, opinion or feeling in each of the sculptures. (A1.6, A2.1, A2.4, & A2.5)
4. In problem solving and creating unique designs, the students will:
a. try their own solutions to the problems they create for themselves in accomplishing their own design for each project. (A1.3, A2.1 & A2.4)
b. invent different methods to answer the problem given in each design project. (A2.1 & A5.2)
c. develop a personal style. (A1.3 & A2.1)
5. In Art history and Aesthetics students will: read and respond to various Scholastic Art magazines on Sculpture and 3-D design. (A1.4, A3.3, A4.1, A4.2, A4.3, A5.2)
