US History (Period 6)

Course Description

This U.S. History course is the next history class, following World History, for the high school curriculum. Based upon the California Common Core Standards for Social Science, it is designed for students to examine major developments and turning points in American history from the late nineteenth century to the present, including the role that geography played in these developments. This course will require students to examine primary documents, supplemental readings, maps and other sources to help them investigate different interpretations of the past and draw their own conclusions about it. Students will be developing their critical thinking and literacy skills by completing various assignments and projects throughout the year. In addition to meeting the A-G graduation requirements, this course will prepare students for college and beyond by teaching them the skills necessary for academic and life success.
