The first home varsity football game of the season
was last Friday, September 9, 2011, the Nogales High School varsity football team achieved a very impressive victory over Jurupa Hills High School at the first home game of the season. Nogales defeated the opposing team with a reigning score of 36-14. The game started off with a touchdown from the rival team; however, our mighty nobles managed to block, tackle, and finally score several touchdowns leading to this memorable win. It was disappointing when the other team made the first touchdown, but the nobles responded with their own retributory touchdown, Keith Bolden explained, “I felt like it needed to be done.”
The second quarter was more than satisfying for spectators as the team made three touchdowns and two extra points leaving them in the lead at 26-6 by halftime. During the second half, the nobles made yet another touchdown and earned one extra point by the end of the third quarter.
Finally, by the time the fourth quarter ended, Nogales had scored a field goal and the rivals attempted a comeback by making a touchdown and two extra points, which was not enough to pull themselves up as the acclaimed nobles reigned victorious. The first touchdown and four in total were made by number nine, Keith Bolden who after the game explained, “I felt like it needed to be done.” After the game, “Joey” Ledesma, a sophomore on the varsity football team, said, “I felt nervous, because it was my first varsity game.” Head Coach, Sebastian Hernandez boasted confidence and pride for his team when he said, “It feels great to win our first game at home, I am very proud of our team’s effort. We are much improved from last season.” Remember nobles, to continue to show support for our players so don’t forget to attend their games and cheer them on. The next game will be at South El Monte High School on Friday, September 23 at 7:00 PM.
