Nobles Win Nail Biter Against Rowland

La Puente, CA--In what was deemed a crucial game for both teams, turned out to be one of the most exciting matches of the season for the Nogales Varsity Boys Soccer team. The visiting Raiders entered the match undefeated in Valle Vista League play, leading the league in scoring with nine goals, and had not given up a goal, and had a solid lock on first place.

The Nobles were in second place with one loss and one tie and second in scoring with seven goals and second in goals against. The winner would be in a solid position to win league.

The Nogales JV boys kicked things off with a 1-0 win over the Rowland JV and set the stage for the varsity battle. With the game played under lights, both teams were energetic and attacked early with each team having opportunities to score and both defenses holding strong.

They played to a 0-0 halftime tie. Coach Aguiniga had a quick meeting with his coaching staff and then addressed the team. The second half started and both teams resumed strong defense and fast-paced attacks.

With about 15 minutes left in the match, Nogales was awarded a corner kick. Anthony Dominguez kicked it into play, making an accurate cross. Jonathan Ortiz, who scored the game winner versus Wilson in overtime on a corner kick, found the ball and headed it into the net for a goal.

The Nobles defense continued their solid play and held off a late scoring attack from Rowland. When the referee blew the final whistle, the Nogales players jumped with joy and joined their teammates on the field.

With the season far from over, both Rowland and Nogales are in strong positions to win CIF playoff berths and the Valle Vista League title is still up for grabs.
