Brag Sheet- Recommendations

Hi AVID Seniors-

Please make sure you provide a completed Brag Sheet to EACH person you ask to write a letter of recommendation for you.  This will help the writer (even if they know you very well) to write a fantastic and well-rounded letter for you.

Also, make sure you are asking politely with plenty of time for the teacher to write the letter for you.  You need to make sure you provide them with all the information needed (college name, address, envelope with a stamp if needed to be mailed, brag sheet, due date, etc.).  I recommend giving the writer at least three weeks to write their recommendation.  If the letter needs to be sent electronically, make sure you provide explicit instructions as to how to turn in the online recommendation.

Journal #3: Mass Hysteria

Journal #3: Mass Hysteria

Mass hysteria is defined as “a phenomenon that transmits collective delusions of threats, whether real or imaginary, through a population in society as a result of rumors and fear.”

The Salem Witch Trials are an example of mass hysteria.  Think about the definition of mass hysteria, and write a journal expressing your thoughts about it.  What other instances in American history (or even around the world) would be examples of mass hysteria?  Explain why they would be examples.  Your response needs to be 3/4 - 1 page (NOT including the definition and prompt).

DUE Wednesday morning.

Problem-Solution Essay

We will be working on this in class, completing the research and the writing process with my support.  Once the essay has been written according to the guidelines and rubric, we will begin working on the presentation process, using the presentation note cards to support our presentation and guide the creation of your visual presentation.

Grading Scale Sheet

Attached is the handout I provided the fist few weeks of school.  This breaks down the points earned per assignment and the coinciding percentage and letter grade.  Please use this as a reference for all grades in the grade book.  If you lose the copy I gave you, please print another copy and keep it in your binder.
