Description:

This course “values the perspective of the learner, and provides next-gen learning experiences that promote higher achievement and develop the competencies needed for college and career readiness. Interactive learning blends print and technology in a student-centered, teacher-inspired classroom. This dynamic Pearson program creates an interactive, engaging, and relevant learning environment through readings, meaningful activities, and purposeful performance tasks. The text encourages social collaboration as well as student ownership of learning through goal setting, choice, and reflection” (Pearson Education).

 
Objectives:

This course focuses on reading comprehension, literary analysis, oral presentations, and writing. The objectives of this course include developing students’ understanding of the history and cultural progress of our humanity through literature. Students will analyze, discuss and write about literary passages via academic methods and concepts used in literary study.  Students will demonstrate maturity in their writing, mastery of technology and command of diction through a variety of presentations, projects and essays.

 
By the end of this course, you should:
  •        Analyze, compare and evaluate various works of literature (read between the lines)
  •        Demonstrate proficiency in technology
  •        Gain practice in responding to literature through analytical and argumentative writing
  •        Develop and apply study and research skills
  •        Develop, apply, and refine oral presentation skills
  •        Refine your ability to think, speak, and write about ideas, writers, and their works
Pedagogy:
  • To empower students in critical thinking in a learning-centered environment
  • Increase the distribution and absorption of knowledge through open-minded discussions in class
  • Encourage variety and originality in analysis and critique of the texts
  • Collaborative learning through group projects
  • Enhance effective learning beyond the classroom with the help of multimedia learning tools
 
Requirements:
For a successful classroom experience students are required to:
Sustain regular and prompt attendance and follow all class rules and procedures. Students are expected to come to class ready to talk about our assignments, you must read thoughtfully, carefully, and actively. ALWAYS bring the book under discussion to class. Regular reading quizzes will be given. Participation is expected and will figure into your final grade. This course is designed as a place for discussion and and exchange of ideas. It is not lecture only.  Read carefully, bring your texts, and be ready to share your insights or questions. All formal papers must follow correct MLA format.
