Editing Assignment

For the "In the Moment" portion of your Saturation Paper, you need to read through and edit your writing.  Since the paper is required to be written in first person and present tense, you will be spending the period reading through your writing and making sure you have all of the following correct.

1. All first person pronouns.
2. All verbs are present tense.  (Verbs are those words you use to show action... just in case you forgot).
3.  All nouns have AT LEAST one modifier (aka an adjective... they modify, not "describe").
4.  Every single sentence that you have written is complete.  No fragments.  No run-ons. (Ya... that was a fragment.)  Fragments are missing usually a subject or a verb or simply is not a complete thought.  Run-ons are usually missing punctuation and have multiple sentences smooshed together.
5.  All punctuation and capitalization is correct.  I should never see ---> i <--- or ---> i'm <---.  Names are capitalized.
6.  MLA format is on point.  The only thing that should be in your heading is your last name and page number, and you need to make sure that font is Times New Roman 12 point.  Your entire essay is double spaced.  There is nothing fancy with your title (i.e. it's not bolded, italicized, underlined, bigger font, etc.)

Once your paper perfectly fits the guidelines, you need to print.  If I do not have your paper in my hand by the time the bell rings, it will not be accepted.  Your DEADLINE is the end of the period.  If you don't meet your DEADLINE, then you did not meet the requirements for the paper.  This means you need to keep in mind the fact that there are 20+ people planning on printing at the end of class.  Not everyone can print at the same time, so be proactive and get yours done BEFORE the bell rings.

Happy writing!

Sensory Detail Writing Assignment #2

Below is the previous assignment for sensory details.  The next step is to focus on WHO will be in your moment (obviously your person, but think about what other people would be in your moment). Adding to your sensory details, focus on starting to develop your description of characters, time of the event, and developing dialogue between all of your characters.  Remember: not all conversation happens between people.  Since you are writing in first person present tense, you need to remember that characters think to themselves, which will be required to have in your paper.

Previous assignment:

Now that you have chosen the absolutely most significant moment in your historical person's life, you need to start working on the creative writing aspect of the assignment.  This is going to be the most important part of your entire writing process, because once you have this done, the rest will come easily to you.

Due next Tuesday, you will have to provide a detailed description of your event.  You will need to focus on the 5 main sensory details (what you see, hear, smell, feel, and taste) as the person in your story.  Your details will need to be so descriptive that your reader feels like they are your person and they ARE in the the same exact moment.

You can do this one of two ways: you can write it out in paragraph form (similar to how an author starts a novel, with as many details as possible) or you can create some kind of chart/map that details your setting.

This assignment will be graded on HOW WELL you describe your setting, how detailed you are, and proper word choice.  The best thing to do is aim for the most detailed you can be.
