Applying for Financial Aid: 

 

1. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

·        Use the FAFSA to apply for financial aid for all colleges/universities in the United States.

·        Submit your FAFSA between October 1 – March 2 of your senior year.

·        Will use the 2015 tax year information

 

       AB540 and Deferred Action students will fill out the Dream Act Application

 

·        The Dream Act Application is only for California schools.

·        Dream Act Application website: https://dream.csac.ca.gov

.    Will use you 2015 tax year information

·        Submit your Dream Act application between October 1 – March 2 of your senior year.

 

2. Check with private and out of state schools for their financial aid filing deadline; they may have earlier filing deadlines.

 

3. Some private schools require a CSS PROFILE Application. The CSS PROFILE is an additional financial aid application required       by certain private schools. You can register for the CSS PROFILE online at http://www.profileonline.collegeboard.com.

 

4. You must submit a FAFSA or Dream Act Application even if you are completing the CSS PROFILE.

 

5.  Cal Grant/GPA Verification Forms: Nogales will AUTOMATICALLY SEND your name, social security number, and GPA to the California Student Aid Commission if we have your social security number on file. Check with your counselor to make sure we have your social security number AND it is accurate or your name may not be automatically forwarded

·        If you are an AB540 or Deferred Action student please notify your counselor so we can send the correct information.

 

6.  Always save/print a copy of everything you submit online. 

 

7.  Obtain a certificate of mailing (not certified) for any applications or documents you mail through the post office. Don't send anything in such a way that the college has to sign for it (such as certified).

 

8.  Check the scholarship box in the College and Career Center to see which scholarships are currently available. Search for          scholarships at fastweb.com and brokescholar.com

*Please note these workshops are for ALL seniors applying to a two OR four year college/university.  Students are required to have permission from their teachers to attend.  Parents are more than welcome to join them, but please remember to check - in with attendance.*

 

**This is optional, but a good place to also receive help with filling out your FAFSA. You will have to register for Cash for College through Mt. Sac.  There are a total of 4 sessions, first one begins at 8:30 a.m. and last session begins at 1:30 p.m.  Please go to http://www.mtsac.edu/financialaid/cashfair.html to register**
