FINAL DRAFT DUE THURSDAY

Attention all English 11 classes:

Your FINAL DRAFT of the Juvenile Justice essay is due at the beginning of the period Thursday.  Your paper needs to be turned in to the box outside the door before entering class.  If you do not have your paper, you will receive a zero.  It is your responsibility to print out your essay in advanced.  Do not come to class with an excuse; it will not be heard and will not allow for late turn-ins.  Print the night before or come to school early and print in the Library.

Remember:
- Did you answer the prompt and prove your argument WELL?
- Is your paper in proper MLA format, including the Works Cited (which should be perfect because you have your cheat-sheet)?
- Is your thesis in the right place and is it strong?
- Did you include EVIDENCE in your essay with the proper in-text citations?
- Does your essay read well (proper grammar, academic language, mature thoughts) and does it make sense?

*** Have someone read through your final draft before turning it in.

If you did not turn a folder in, you can expect a zero.  If you choose to turn a folder in on Monday, you can expect to earn half of the grade only.  There are no excuses for not being prepared, even if you were absent.
If you turn a folder in that is missing assignments, you will earn a zero for each missing assignment.  All assignments need to be in order in your folder.

Friday 1/22: LIBRARY

Friday class will be held in the Mac Lab in the Library.  Be there by the beginning of the period.  There will be no excused tardies.

Come prepared to take movie notes.  There will be a seating chart when you arrive, and you will need to be prepared to take notes on the film immediately.

We will also be in the lab Monday.

Thursday 11/21 Agenda and Assignments

1. Read "On Punishment and Teen Killers".  You can find a copy in the ERWC folder under "Juvenile Justice Readings".
2. Annotate the same way you did with the article from yesterday.
3. Using the article from yesterday, identify when Jenkins uses a fact/argument that is against what the previous article used to support themselves.  She uses specific facts to prove the others "wrong".  What are they?
4. Log in to our Google Classroom and respond to the question I have posted.  Write a detailed post with references from the article and a clear explanation.  After writing your response, you will need to respond to two of your classmates' answers/posts.  Be respectful and mature in your answers and responses.  Any inappropriate answer will automatically be deleted and you will earn a zero for the assignment.

Wednesday 1/20 Agenda and Assignments

1. Read "Juveniles Don't Deserve Life Sentences" one time all the way through.
2. On the second read, complete the following:
- In the left margin, label the following: the introduction, the issue/problem the author is writing about, the author's main argument, examples, and conclusion to the issue.
-In the right hand margin, write your reactions to what the author is saying.  Ask questions, express surprise, disagree, agree, note any point of confusion.  You need to have at least one written reaction for each paragraph.
3. On a separate sheet of paper, write a response to the article and compare/contrast the information to the previous articles.

If you are absent, this needs to be completed at home before returning to school tomorrow.  Any activity and assignment you missed needs to be completed before you come to school.  For each day you miss, you will be responsible for printing your own articles and handouts and coming to class prepared the next day.  There is no excuse for not being prepared.  You will be held accountable and graded the same as everyone who was in class.

Tuesday, 1/19/16 Agenda and Assignments

1. QW #2: Based on the 4 articles and 3 videos we have read/watched so far, what would your answer be to the essential question?  Explain why.
** It would be a very smart idea to use evidence from the articles and video notes to support yourself.  There is no minimum/maximum to this writing assignment.  Remember: your effort and strength in writing will be rewarded in your grade.  You earn your grade.

2. Create a Writing Portfolio in your Google account just for English classes at Nogales.

3.  Homework:  put your previous writing assignments into this Writing Portfolio.  This is for any writing assignment you have done while at Nogales.  You need to upload them from a flash drive or any other device that holds your writing assignments.  Organize them into separate folders based on grade level.
